Every year, at least for the past couple of years, I have chosen a word of the year. I start off trying to pay attention to my word of the year, but like most New Year’s anything, as time passes, I tend to forget about it. This year, I almost didn’t make a word f the year. I saw a few friends post about it and I thought about it, but nothing really seemed to resonate with me. Then, just the other day, a friend posted her word of the year and it totally resonated with me. I really didn’t think I would choose a word of the year, but this year, my word is the open ended EXPLORE!
Why did this word resonate so much with me? I think it’s because the word explore can be used in so many different ways. It could be used as explore the world around me, it could be to explore my passions, explore new things that I have never experienced, explore my career choices, or even as simple as exploring new foods.
I looked up explore quotes and some of my favorite quotes are there, so that too tells me that it is a good word. I love the quote I have at the beginning, I love the quote about “two roads diverged in a yellow wood…” by Robert Frost, the quote by Tolkien that states “Not all who wander are lost”, and the quote “do not go where the path my lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail” by Ralph Waldo Emerson.
I never thought of myself as an explorer, but I think it is time to. I also think it is time to actually explore and see everything as a way to explore. I want to get outside and explore more. I want to read and explore things through books. I want to explore different crafts. I want to explore different possible career possibilities. I want to explore new foods and new recipes. There are so many ways that I can see myself exploring. I want to explore new ways of health modalities, new planting/gardening possibilities, I want to learn and explore new things (I miss school), nd so much more.
To come from a place of no desire for a word of the year to being excited about the word explore is quite awesome. Out of all the exploration quotes, I think my favorite os the one at the beginning of this post: “Be Fearless In The Pursuit Of What Sets Your Soul On Fire” Jennifer Lee.
Do you have a word of the year? Is it important to you?
